Fishing Photos 5/20/11
I went out fishing a few times in the last week to work on a few fishing articles I'm doing for a fly-fishing magazine. Actually the first time I was just fishing with my friend Captain Adam Paul of Gillz n Finz TV but got a couple of cool redfish photos. The second trip was with my friend Captain Jeremy Mehlhaff of Charleston Shallows and we went out specifically to get some closeups of fly caught redfish in the style the magazine requested.

Reptile Day at the Swamp Garden 5/17/11
As I mentioned in my last post I took my family including my mother to the Magnolia Plantation Swamp Garden. I've been to the swamp garden many times and have never seen a snake there. This time was different. We saw a total of six snakes including two yellow rat snakes in wood duck nesting boxes. The wood ducks all seem to have fledged so the snakes had no egg or chick shape bulges. Here are a few snakes and other reptile shots from the trip:

Architectural Shoots 5/13/11
Last week, I shot some new publicity shots for my mother and took my family to the Swamp Garden where we saw lots of wildlife including six snakes (more on that later). This week, I had two architectural shoots for my client Morris Architecture and shot some fishing as well. Here are a few shots from the architectural shoots, I'll put the other shots up soon.

Swamp Garden and Some Boat Shooting 5/2/11
I went to the Magnolia Plantation Swamp Garden to check out the progress of the heron/egret rookery last week. The great blue heron chicks are getting very big, the great egrets are either sitting on eggs or feeding very young chicks and the other herons and egrets seem to be still building nests. I shot some great egrets including the one below where you can see the eggs and some other random shots.
Over the weekend I shot some fishing shots with my daughters and did an evening architectural shoot from the boat for an architect client of mine.

Alligators to Auto Zones
4/28/11
The last two weeks have been a blur. I've shot such a variety of things lately it's hard to keep track of it all. I shot some wildlife including alligators at Donnely Wildlife Management Area, a classic Austin Healey Sprite downtown, commercial architecture for a few different clients and a book cover for one of my mother's new books.

Bug Off!
4/15/11
My editor requested some flying bug shots for our new book being put together at Boyds Mills Press. So I took my new 300mm lens and shot some carpenter bees in my back yard and some large crazy looking flies in the woods at Dungannon Heritage Preserve.
Book News
4/6/11
When I was away in the Everglades my new book, Birds of a Feather arrived. I love the cover and everything Tim Gillner did with the design of the book. It is already getting great reviews like this one at: www.shelf-awareness.com. An Egret's Day continues to get great reviews as well and was just named by Bank Street College's Book List as one of the best books of the year!!

New Clients
3/28/11
I had
photo shoots with several new clients in the past two weeks. They included two of my favorite subjects: architecture and fishing. First was a shoot up in McClellanville with Captain Rob Beglin of Inshore Xtreme Guide Service. It was a pretty morning but cold and windy. We are planning a two boat shoot for shots of him and his clients fishing so this trip we were just looking for shots of fish.
I then shot a bunch of exteriors of downtown properties for Morris Architecture's new website, followed by a kitchen shoot for Classic Remodeling and Construction.
Everglades Photo Galleries
3/15/11
I finally found some time to work on some more photos from my Everglades Artist in Residency and uploaded the new galleries. You can see them here: http://www.jasonstemple.com/evergladeswildlife.htm.
Busy, Busy, Busy
3/8/11
I've been home for two weeks now and besides putting a slideshow together for my daughters' class and telling a few stories, I've been too busy to even think about the Everglades let alone start going through the images. Besides the normal catching up (family time, bills, emails, etc.) I was busy with commercial work including stock sales, and shoots for Melvin's Restaurant and a bass fishing tv show, and of course the taxes. I also managed to get out one morning to shoot some gobbling turkeys on John's Island.
